What is Engineering Fest?

On Saturday, February 24, 2024, drop by anytime between 10am and 2pm to build and learn, explore Willis Tower, meet engineers, and learn how architecture and engineering partner to create cities we know and love. This festival is FREE with pre-registration.

Who is this event for?

Activities are geared toward youth ages 8-12, but the whole family is welcome to join!

What will I learn?

As downtowns continue to change and reinvent, our iconic jewels remain staples in the skyline. The theme for this year’s festival is “Building Tall,” as we welcome an exciting new partner, Willis Tower. CAC invites Engineering Fest participants to learn about Chicago’s unique architecture and engineering, and to design and test out engineering solutions.  Join us as we explore engineering through interactive stations and activities, including:

• Family Walking Tour — Take a quick tour around the building and learn about the systems that help people move about the city. Stops include Chicago’s tallest building, bridges, trains and more!
• Photo Booth — Say "cheese" at our themed photo booth!
• Create Your Own El Train — Did you know that each CTA car weighs 57,000 pounds? And that’s empty, with no riders! Learn about the strong structures that hold elevated trains and create your own.
• City Planning Challenge — Explore urban design with expert guidance to craft your own cityscape! Let professionals help you strategically design skyscrapers, plan transportation, and create inviting public spaces.
• Ask an Expert Station — participants will receive feedback on their designs from experts in the field and learn about the variety of careers that help a city stay on the move.

¿Qué aprenderé?
A medida que los centros urbanos continúan cambiando y reinventándose, nuestras joyas icónicas siguen siendo fundamentales en el horizonte. El tema del festival de este año es "Construyendo en Altura", ya que damos la bienvenida a un emocionante nuevo socio, la Torre Willis. Únete con nosotros mientras exploramos las múltiples vías de la profesión de la ingeniería a través de estaciones interactivas y actividades, que incluyen:

• Tour Juvenil: Haz un recorrido alrededor del edificio y aprende sobre los sistemas que ayudan a las personas a moverse por la ciudad. Las paradas incluyen, entre otras cosas, el edificio más alto de Chicago, puentes, trenes y ¡mucho más!
• Estación de Fotos: ¡Di "queso" en nuestro fotomatón temático!
• Desafío de Planificación Urbana: Explora el diseño urbano con la guía de expertos para crear tu propio paisaje urbano. Permite que profesionales te asesoren en el diseño estratégico de rascacielos, la planificación del transporte y la creación de espacios públicos acogedores.
• Estación de expertos: Los participantes recibirán comentarios sobre sus diseños de expertos en el campo y aprenderán sobre la variedad de carreras que ayudan a las cuidades mantener en movimiento. ¡Y mucho más!
