Riverwalk East

Learn about newly completed improvements to the Chicago Riverwalk—starting at the Vietnam Memorial and heading east to Lake Michigan—including new public art, trees, landscaping and outposts for picnicking.

In recent years, the central portion of the Chicago Riverwalk (between Lake Street and Michigan Avenue) has become one of the city’s most popular recreation paths. Now, the portions east of Michigan Avenue, known as Riverwalk East, are on their way to becoming just as beloved by residents and tourists alike.

On this tour, you’ll hear how this stretch of land gifted to the city in the 1970s has been enhanced over time to become an ecologically sensitive development.
