Hood and Howells

Raymond Hood and John Mead Howells gained fame by winning the 1922 Tribune Tower competition, later designing iconic Art Deco buildings like Rockefeller Center.

New York architects Raymond Hood and John Mead Howells, established their reputation in Chicago by winning the 1922 competition to design the Tribune Tower. Their winning entry blended historic ornamentation with a contemporary structure. After the competition, Hood and Howell became well-known for their Art Deco style buildings, including the American Radiator Building and Rockefeller Center which are both in New York City.
